Our Issues

CREATE A JOB-FRINDLY ENVIROMENT
  • The way to solve Michigan’s chronic budget problems is to solve the jobs problem
  • More jobs mean more money for schools, police protection, roads and community health
  • I am the Chairman of the Regulatory Reform Committee.  Currently, I am leading regulatory reform by reducing unnecessary rules and regulations on small businesses and corporations
  • The committee is spearheading the need to streamline all regulatory processes
  • The committee is helping to create a better climate for continued job creation

SUPPORT FOR K-12 EDUCATION
  • Budget Approvals in a timely manner: I’m proud to get the K-12 budget approved early in 2011 and 2012, so local school districts will know how much they can spend before the start of the school year.  No one thought we could do it, but the state budget was balanced – and approved – by June 1 both years
  • Support local flexibility in sinking funds: Local school districts need purchasing options, so these funds can be used wisely to offset operational expenses

SMALLER STATE GOVERNMENT
  • We need to continue to make more reforms in government spending
  • We need to continue to streamline operations and make state departments more efficient, transparent and accountable
  • The state auditor general consistently reports various waste and abuse which totals millions of dollars in multiple state departments.  We need to solve this problem.

CONSERVATIVE PRINCIPLES

RENEW, RESTORE and REINFORCE:
A 3-Point Approach to a Better Michigan

(1) CONTINUE TO RENEW your faith in the Michigan legislature;
  • Through budget reform
  • Through cooperation, not confrontation
  • Through an intensive effort to reduce the size of our State government

(2)  CONTINUE TO RESTORE the business climate in Michigan;
  • By attracting new business, including those that have recently left the state
  • By creating an economic climate that will draw businesses into Michigan

(3) CONTINUE TO REINFORCE the quality of life for Michigan citizens;
  • Preserving our natural resources
  • Focusing on our growing population of Senior Citizens
  • By consistently voting to put more tax dollars back into your pockets
